Crafting from a garage in the Cotswolds...

Whif of Joy Guest Designer Call

Friday, February 27, 2009

Over at Whiff of Joy there is a guest designer call. How exciting ! I really like their stamps and have indulged this week and bought another two - what an excuse to shop....... You have to follow a sketch by Katharina and below is my go!
I used papers by Imaginese and Basic Grey Bittersweet. I got to use my new Martha Stewart lace dilly punch for the first time - Yippee . Daisies are from my sewing basket and are actually silver and padded so I tuned them the wrong way and coloured the back with Promarkers to match the card. Brads and spacers from my stash

I coloured the ever so sweet Henry with pro-markers :-
Cup cake - soft lime, lime & carmine
Henry - satin, blush, ivory & blossom
and Stickled it to within an inch of its life !

Sentiment was one I created on the pc and used my nestabilities . On my birthday list is the large set of the circle as only have the small set and would like to have a little bit more flexibility as am rubbish at cutting out free hand - well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!

Have a good Friday ,

Hugs

Penny Black Challenge

Sunday, February 22, 2009

This Saturdays challenge over at Penny Black Saturday Challenge is Get Well Soon
and it is entirely up to you what you make.....a card..an ATC or
altered image.

This is a timely challenge as "Auntie Mary" had a fall early in the week and had to be persuaded to visit the Doctors and managed to hobble in (village about 8 miles from nearest town) only to be told to get herself to hospital for an xray, She is in her late 60's and doesn't drive so the family all helped out and the up shot is she has broken her foot. So hopefully she will like the card and for the first time for ages I have a challenge card I can put to use!!

I used Papermania plain card stock with patterned paper from a K&Co pack. I used a Friskars circle punch - eBay bargain £4 and almost managed to make it join (hidden by embellies)! Florist rafia ribbon & pin from Hobby Craft; flowers from stash; charm was from a multipack off eBay. I coloured the image with Pro Markers :=

Bear - Ivory, Vanilla & Satin
Flower & ladybird - Rose pink & lime

Sentiment I made my self playing with Word (took ages and I forgot to save the File - Doh!

I don't actually posses any PB stamps and the images I have I was sent in a swap but am running out. Is anyone would like to swap some with me please let me know.

Off now to "Dog Days" at the local arboretum with MIL lovely cute, licky, friendly but not too bright cavalier. We are entering the owner & dog looky-likey so pig tails and brown and white clothes here we come ( well actually not me but darling daughter). Have made large flask of coffee as it will be a long day....... other half has miraculously "got to go to work" mmmmmm.....

Some Boxes

Whilst blog hopping I found a tutorial for making an origami box (will try and find link and post later) and loved it as it was so easy and effective. I just wish I still had children at primary school so I could make for teachers presents. Apparently its SERIOUSLY not cool to do stuff like that "MOTHER" at secondary school. Will have to save for a thank you for something else!! Off now to practise being cool ..... note to self fluffy bright pink piggy slippers not a good start.......

Hi

Hi,

Long time no post! Its not been a great time at work at the mo and have felt a bit drained by it all - Guess this might sound a bit pathetic but have been so let down by someone I thought was a friend that all I have wanted to do is come home and go to bed and my craft stuff has stayed in its cupboard. However, thanks to my crafting buddy Irene I went to a "crop" last night hours (4.30pm - 11pm) of sheer loveliness and crafting to hearts content (and fish & chips thrown in as well - yummy). Then today, we went to a months ago pre booked workshop using alcohol inks and got inky!. We made a tag book which I need to finish but has all the basis of the pages and I intend adding some photos and some writing for my friend across the road who is moving shortly :( The colours haven't some out like they should but thats lighting in my house for you !

Feel better now with combination of Irene and internet shopping (Martha Stewart & Leone Em punch. So thank you Irene & Bank Manager

A Stamp Challenge

Friday, February 6, 2009

Well I'm glad this working week is over . I can't believe how long 5 days has been. I'm so looking forward to the weekend. So much so that I have ignored food and a number of "Mum what's for supper?" and have been so successful that oldest son (by 4 mins - twins) had now cooked a very nice curry. Not really that much of a neglectful mother as they are 19 and have only been sledging all day!!! So due to my deafness I have have a little play and had a go at the challenge over at http://stampchallenges.blogspot.com/ which is is Something for your Valentine. It can be a card, a gift, or some candy, whatever it is you are giving to your Valentine.

I decided to make something that either my sons (ha who am i kidding???) or daughter could give. I followed a template for the bag and used I think Imaginese card and lined with papermania heart paper. The handle I made using some left over jewelery wire and beads. I attached using a jump ring poked through the card but am conscious that this isn't too robust - if anyone can suggest something please let me know.

The triangle sweetie holder was made following a video posted on you tube and crimped at the top & bottom. I used for the first time my smallest nestability circle and the "sweet" is a SU stamp I bought off Ebay. I can remember being very surprised when it arrived as I didn't realise how small the stamp was & didn't think at the time I would ever use it. So how wrong was I? The bow is one I have made before by simply tacking through my large roll of bargain ribbon(jumble sale) and then gathering

Had fun doing this and am off to have a bath and enjoy the feeling of being"arty!"

Hugs,

Whiff Of Joy 17

How happy am I? - The answer is very :))) and its not because of the snow (love it) nor the fact I can work from home tomorrow. Its simply because I have made a card I am happy with. I don't think its perfect or anything like that its just I'm happy with it!!!!. I treated myself to some BG Bittersweet card and what a difference I love the fact the papers tone so well - I'm not great with colour so am really pleased!.

The Challenge over at http://wojmondaychallenge.blogspot.com/ is a sketch one ( I have tried to copy and paste the sketch in but can't get it to work- all help gratefully received if someone would let me know) and I have been able to use my recently purchased "Henry". I am really impressed by the quality of the Whiff of Joy stamps and they do stamp a lovely clear image and the service has been great too. I coloured using pro markers and cake case, dusky pink, ivory, blush& blossom, Candle ruby & ivory, Henry, Satin, dusky pink, blush and highlighted with ranger inkessential pen. I also used sparkles on the icing ..... bed cover, my jeans and socks!! yes sat on the bottle and testament to my bodily padding didn't feel it!

Its been a bit snowy in my part of the Cotswolds today and had to work from home and was hoping to sneak a tiny bit of crafting in but no such luck as we had crisis at work. Tomorrow is another day at home but its conference call hell ... I have 8 calls booked in and not much time in between. I can only hope I can find the mute button on my phone so I can sneak to the loo at some point during the day!!!!

I would love to make some new crafting friends I read on many blogs how people have found some good buddies and would really like to do the same - I'm just not sure how you do it!!

Have a safe day if you are travelling in the poor weather & fun snowballing & sledging if your not!

Penny Black

Monday, February 2, 2009

A quick & early morning post before I have to leave for work. After feeling a bit down last night I had a look over at http://pennybfriendssaturdaychallenge.blogspot.com/ and was inspired to have a go at their circle card challenge. It was a challenge for me as I only have the small set of circle nestabilities so I had to improvise. This involved drawing around my cereal bowl on the green papermania paper and on white card stock I used the top of my biscuit tin. Then had to cut out freehand (since when did I start to shake????). The hedgehog was an image I had been sent and I coloured in using promarkers Ruby & Meadow Green flowers, Satin, Pastel Pink & Blush on the body.

I coloured in my white raffia with black promarker (yes the fingers do still look a little grey!) and die cut the hearts from a sizzx die. I made the flower again by colouring in some white ribbon and gathered together with large running stitches. Heart chart was from a magazine my daughter had ( she hasn't noticed.........yet!). I'm not too sure about the hearts and feel they should have been distressed or outlined as they look too new!!

Please let me know what you would have done.
Happy first day of the week!

Saturday Sketch 36

Sunday, February 1, 2009

Had a lovely day yesterday with my friend Irene as we went to a stamping workshop in Cricklade. Can't believe how time flew and in 3 hours I had only made 2 cards! Well that's nattering for you. There where a lot of talented ladies at the workshop who had lots of ideas and produced some lovely cards. Decided to have a go at the challenge over at http://sketchsaturday.blogspot.com/ . But having completed a card am feeling a bit down as not really happy with it at all and don't feel I'm getting any better:( (will get over feeling poor poor me in a bit!!). I have spent so long blog hopping seeing some wonderful work I do get frustrated that I can;t seem to produce any thing like what I see. Oh well more practise needed....

Did buy 5 more promarkers yesterday and have had a colour today so that has been good - really wish I could find a pink that I liked - If anyone can recommend one please let me know!

Used pastel blue for jeans, soft lime & lemon for top, amethyst & carmine on the flowers, hair lemon, yellow & satin. I ended up with very limey fingers as I coloured the ribbon and the raffia to try to match. But still not happy. Going to cook a late supper and have a hop later to try to learn a bit more.

Hope everyone has a good week ahead .... Just looked out of my window and we have snow here in Gloucestershire!! Yippee!!!
